State Standard Met: This plan idea is inspired by specific health learning standards on Georgia Standards site (http://www.georgiastandards.org/). Respect for Others 1.11 Respect for Self 1.14

Topic Objective: Students will learn that all students are unique and have special abilities. Students will learn to lead by example by displaying their work for other students. Students will practice thinking of positive words to describe themselves and others.

Materials Needed: Paper, Pencil, Casey and The Amazing Green Shirt book, Mural paper, Bulletin Board Trim, Stapler/Staples, Masking tape Photocopied pictures of Casey's green shirt, A large poster board model of Casey's green shirt for the door decoration, Letters for the wall display.
For the Students: Paper, Pencil, Photocopied pictures of Casey's shirt, Crayons, Sentence strips.

Positive Label Program Relevance: Teaches and reinforces respect.

Procedure/Activity: The Teacher will first read, Casey and The Amazing Green Shirt. She will ask questions to help students see the importance of using positive labels to show respect and encouragement to others. Then have the students think of positive words to describe themselves and their classmates. Write down their name and one positive trait on a sentence strip. Use these to decorate the classroom door. Then have them write many positive labels on their photocopied paper shirt with their name on it. Hang these on a wall display in the hall. The display will look like shirts hanging on the clothesline. The display will be titled, "Hanging on to Positive Words."

Students will color a paper photocopied picture of Casey's shirt and write positive words about himself or herself on the shirt. Write the child's name on the shirt. Make a hall wall display using clothesline. Attach each of the students shirts to the clothesline. Make a wall display. Also decorate the classroom door with positive labels to show others in the shcool that this class embraces the idea of using only positive labels in our classroom as an example to others.

Instructions: Activity Teacher Tips: Go ahead and prepare the background of the door and wall with mural paper and trim to have the display ready to decorate.
Activity Student Tips: Have student share orally what they have written before you attach the finished products on the door and wall to display.
